It is now much easier for parents to access documents for students who receive special education services. Chesterfield County Public Schools staff members in the Special Education Department and the Technology Division collaborated to make IEPs, 504 plans and other documents readily available via ParentVUE.
ParentVUE is the platform Chesterfield County Public Schools uses to share student information with all parents. Adding special education documents makes ParentVUE even more helpful. Here’s how to view special education documents:
Parents can log in to their ParentVUE account and navigate to the special education section of their child’s profile. This step-by-step guide (in English and in Spanish) shows how to do that.
From there, parents can view and download available documents (IEP, 504 plan, eligibility packet, progress reports, etc.) at any time, without needing to request copies from the school.
The new process is a big improvement from the previous one, in which parents received printed or electronic copies of special education documents from their child’s school. Feedback from parents sparked this change, with school system employees working to make it happen while ensuring that special education documents are shared accurately and securely.
Director of Special Education Summer Manos said, “This change is important because it enhances transparency, provides timely access to information and supports parents as informed and engaged partners in their child’s special education process.”
